Don't be a victim to your health or your life

Have you been feeling like something isn't right with your body?

Sleep has been terrible!

You wake up in the middle of the night and your brain won't shut down, despite how completely exhausted you feel. You lay there wide awake mulling over details of life that aren't even all that important - at least not at 3am!

Energy is non-existent!

Your get-up-and-go got up and left, and you have no idea why, or how to get it back. If only a good, long nap would help! But it doesn't. In fact, it only makes you feel terribly guilty for all of the other things that you should have gotten done but didn't.

Moody bitch!

That's what you'd call yourself since your behavior has been so erratic. You snap at the drop of a hat. Your husband is walking around on eggshells wondering if he's going to say something wrong and somehow set you off. Your kids are giving you the deer-in-the-headlights look every time you yell at them - you used to be so much more patient and loving. Your friends have left your life, either by their choice or by your push. Doesn't matter. You no longer care. They must not have been a good fit for you.

The number on the scale continues to creep upward!

Your tummy is hanging over your jeans now - is this what they call a muffin-top? You never thought you'd have that body. You're crazy frustrated about it, too, since you exercise and try to watch what you're eating. You wonder if this is just part of getting older.

You dread eating because every meal brings heartburn and indigestion!

Gas, bloating, and irregular bowel movements were never a problem either, until you turned 40. You convince yourself that this is what happens to people as they age.

You can't seem to stop feeling shaky or jittery!

As you navigate through each day, you can't help the shaky, nauseated feeling that seems to come and go in waves. "Am I pregnant?," you wonder to yourself, while deep down you know there's no way that's even possible. One needs to have a shred of a libido, motivation to get intimate with your man, energy to do so, and a normal menstrual cycle before a pregnancy would be possible.

At night while you're watching television and relaxing, you suddenly feel like you're trembling from within, like your nervous system is about to jump right out of your skin. You mention it to your husband. He looks at you like you're crazy.

You don't need this right now. Not one more thing to stress about. Life has been so hard lately!

The chronic stress from that big, awful thing in your life that you thought would never calm down or come to an end finally did, and you are so grateful to have it behind you. It's hard not to be afraid of what terrible life-trial will rear its ugly head next. It would be so nice just to have things go smoothly for a long while. You desperately need a break from so much stress.

Still, you can't shake the feeling that something is going on with your health.

"Is my body breaking down?"

"Do I have some serious disease?"

"Should I see a doctor?"

"What if I'm dying?"

All you want to do is curl up in a ball on your sofa and cry your eyes out.

Please know this - You are not crazy!

Your body is telling you something is out of balance. Your symptoms are real. Your feelings are valid. Many women don't realize there is a connection between chronic stress and how well our hormones function. It is common for women who experience extreme stress or hardship to eventually face trouble with their health. Our body can only live in "fight or flight" mode for so long before things start to go haywire.

What you're experiencing could be hormones. Or it could be a nutrient or mineral deficiency.  Maybe it's a combination of multiple issues.

No matter the cause, the good news is that our body is super intelligent! More often than not, we simply need to provide it with the necessary support suitable for healing.

Hi! I'm Rosann Cunningham, and I'm an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach. I specialize in Hormone Health and I know firsthand how awful and out of sorts a woman can feel when something or many things are out of balance in her body.

Can I share a little bit of my own story with you?

Once upon a time there was a girl. She experienced a good decade or more of one major life crisis after another. She lost loved ones. She witnessed her husband go through a long season of unemployment and the emotional effect it had on him, not to mention the financial hardship it placed on their life.

She witnessed a frightening case of mistaken identity that nearly turned her world upside down. She saw the people she loved experience cancer, heart disease, COPD, depression, anxiety, chronic digestive distress, Cardiomyopathy, Hashimotos, unexplained bronchial spasms, rare systemic rashes that seemed to have no cure, and neurological disorders.

To cope with her powerful emotions, fears, and the stress of each heart-wrenching crisis, she turned to God, which helped immensely. She also became a runner. The longer the distance, the better. She participated in 5K races and eventually trained for a half marathon. When the snow was falling, she would go to the gym and run her heart out on the treadmill. She pushed her body so hard. She loved the adrenaline rush. She even participated in a mud run and loved it.

That girl was me. ūüėČ

One day, I noticed I wasn't feeling well. Something was "off." I couldn't explain it. I just didn't feel right. I started getting headaches after every workout. I wasn't sleeping well. I was having a hard time breathing. My stomach felt like it was in knots. Even my bowel movements were different. On one hand, I had a feeling about what was wrong, and that it was somehow connected to stress and over-training. On the other hand, I wasn't a doctor, so I couldn't actually give myself a diagnosis. I didn't even know where to begin to try.

You see, we are our body's best expert. We know it better than anyone. It sends us signals all the time. Deep inside, we know when something is wrong, and generally, we have some kind of idea about how to fix it. We may just need some extra knowledge about our particular struggle, or some guidance from a professional who specializes in what we're dealing with. Otherwise we might end up throwing everything under the sun up against the wall to see if it sticks, only to find out later we didn't realize nutrient X needed nutrient Y in order to work correctly, for example.

Anyway, it wasn't too long after I began experiencing my "off" feeling that I ended up in the emergency room convinced I was dying of a heart attack.

It was just anxiety. (Thank you, Jesus!)

However, we later learned my blood work confirmed a thyroid problem along with an electrolyte imbalance.

I was thrilled to know I wasn't going crazy, or dying. But the thyroid is a complex gland to work with and I didn't have a clue about it. That was when my long, and very difficult journey to renewed health began.

Thyroid troubles?

If your thyroid gland is under attack, inflamed, or is otherwise experiencing dysfunction, I totally understand how that feels! I know firsthand how horrible it is. The thyroid affects every cell in your body, so when there's a problem, you can experience it in ways you'd least expect. I know you feel like nobody understands what you're going through, like your doctor won't listen, like your family thinks you're lazy because you're so exhausted all the time, or worse, like the people you love think it's all in your head. Yes, I've been there myself.

Adrenal fatigue?

If your adrenals are totally burned out, and you're waking up at night feeling that wired but tired feeling, I get it. I know the complete feeling of helplessness you get when you realize you can't lose weight no matter what you do or how hard you try. I know you feel weak and jittery at times, and that your body has a hard time keeping your mineral levels balanced. I know irritability and anxiety take turns controlling your mental and emotional state, sometimes to the point where you're afraid to leave your own house.

Perimenopause?

If you're going through perimenopause, and your periods are freakin' ridiculously heavy or irregular - girl, I totally feel your pain. If you're waking up in a pool of sweat-drenched sheets in the middle of the night, I understand your alarm. If your libido has up and left and you don't think it will ever return, yes, yes, and yes. I was once there too. When you get that awful menstrual migraine every month, right on time, even though your period can't decide to show up or hit the road, I know just how debilitating that can be.

What is an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach?

To keep it simple, I'm like a personal fitness trainer, but for food and lifestyle choices.
